Passionflower (Fata Confetto)

Fata Confetto is an Italian passionflower hybrid bred by Maurizio Vecchia and named for the Sugar Plum Fairy of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker: warm purple and white flowers with long striped filaments and dramatically twisted edges, roughly 4 inches across, borne from late spring through mid-fall on a modest-sized vine. Its Passiflora incarnata parentage gives it real cold-hardiness for a passionflower, extending its useful range further north than most cultivars in the genus can reach.
