The trees were delivered promptly and they are the biggest, best looking mail-order trees I have seen in a long time. I will be ordering more in the future.

Website customer

I have been buying from your nursery for years, and hands down your citrus has survived the best out of all of my sources. I have never lost a plant in my colder climate.

Returning customer

It looks like it is at least 7 feet tall. I certainly was not expecting it to be that big.

Description

Flame Seedless is the grape many people picture when they think of a red seedless table grape. The berries are sweet, firm and crisp, with a clean mild flavor and the kind of texture that makes a cluster disappear quickly.

It is a true Vitis vinifera, so it loves summer heat. In hot inland climates that is easy. In cool coastal climates, give it the warmest wall, slope, greenhouse or tunnel available.

That heat requirement is simply a placement decision. Put Flame where it can collect enough sun and warmth and it rewards you with exactly the kind of red seedless table grape most people want to eat fresh.

Overview

  • 🌿 Red seedless table grape.
  • 🌿 Firm, crisp texture with mild sweet flavor.
  • 🌿 Early season where summer heat is sufficient.
  • 🌿 Self-fertile.
  • 🌿 Best in hot, sunny, sheltered sites.

Growing Details

Latin Name: Vitis vinifera ‘Flame Seedless’
Site and Soil: Full sun; warm exposure; well-drained soil
Hardiness: Tender for a grape; best where winter lows are moderate
Size at Maturity: Space about 6 ft in the row on a permanent support
Pollination: Self-fertile
Ripening Time: Early where summers are warm enough
Propagation: Grafting onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock is preferred where phylloxera is present

Additional Notes

  • 🌿 Grower’s Insight: Flame is about texture as much as flavor. If you want that firm table-grape snap from your own vine, this is the style.
  • 🌿 Regional Insight: Best suited to warm inland valleys and other hot-summer regions. In cooler coastal climates, reflected heat or protected growing makes the difference.

Planting & Care – Flame Seedless Grape

Site & Soil

Choose the hottest, sunniest site available. A south-facing wall, warm slope, greenhouse or tunnel is ideal in marginal climates. Keep the root zone well drained.

Planting & Watering

Plant at the original soil level and water deeply while the vine establishes. Once rooted in, water deeply as needed rather than keeping the soil constantly wet.

Training & Pruning

Use a permanent trellis and prune every dormant season. Keep the canopy open enough that clusters receive good light and air.

Feeding

Feed moderately. Heavy nitrogen can push long soft growth and delay ripening, so let the vine put its energy into fruit once it is established.

Harvest

Wait for full red color, sweetness and crisp texture before cutting clusters. Grapes do not sweeten after picking.
