Boxed perfect. Shipped on time. Excellent quality stock. About the only thing you could do to improve my experience would be to fly out to Maine and plant them for me.

Don, Maine

The packaging for those kiwis was brilliant and by far the best packaging job out of any place I ordered from this year. Your Annas are tough as nails.

Travis

Absolutely beautiful trees, especially compared to some of the other mail order bare roots I have gotten from other companies.

Description

Shinseiki is the Asian pear for a grower who wants fruit early and does not necessarily have room for two trees. The pears are crisp, juicy and very sweet, with creamy white flesh and a mild flavor that is easy to eat straight off the tree.

It is also one of the unusual Asian pears with useful self-fruitfulness. One tree can crop, although planting a compatible Asian pear nearby usually improves fruit set and gives you a heavier harvest.

Shinseiki sits at the early end of the Asian pear season and needs relatively little winter chill. Thin the crop hard and let the pears ripen on the tree; that combination gives you the bigger, sweeter fruit the variety is capable of producing.

Additional Notes

  • 🌿 Grower’s Insight: If you only have room for one Asian pear, Shinseiki makes that decision easier because it can set fruit by itself and still benefits when you eventually add a partner.
  • 🌿 Regional Insight: Its low chill requirement makes Shinseiki useful in mild-winter regions as well as traditional pear country. Harvest moves later as summers become cooler, so pick by ripeness rather than by a fixed date.

Planting & Care – Shinseiki Asian Pear

Site & Soil

Use full sun and well-drained soil with steady summer moisture. Give the tree enough room to develop a broad structure and keep the center open to light.

Planting & Watering

Plant with the graft union above soil level and water deeply through establishment. Keep moisture consistent while fruit is swelling, especially on light soils.

Pollination

One Shinseiki can set a crop, but another compatible Asian pear nearby generally improves yield. Chojuro is a useful partner.

Pruning & Thinning

Spread young branches to avoid narrow crotches and prune to maintain good light through the canopy. Asian pears set heavily, so thin about two to three weeks after bloom to one fruit per cluster.

Harvest

Do not pick hard and expect the fruit to ripen on the counter. Asian pears finish on the tree. When the fruit tastes sweet and releases with a gentle lift and twist, it is ready.
