Hazelnut (Sacajawea)

Recently introduced by Oregon State University, Sacajawea Filbert Trees bear abundant crops of exceptionally flavorful nuts. Similar to prized Italian varieties in flavor, these large and tasty nuts are great for fresh eating, roasting and baking. Filberts like 1/2-day to full sun and well-drained soil. For cross pollination, plant with Yamhill. Filbert trees are hardy to -25º F. At maturity, filberts grow 8-12 feet in height. Ripening time is in September.
