Description
The Italian 258 is another in the series collected by Todd Kennedy while in Italy in the 1980’s and brought back to California. It is a favorite fig among collectors. It does well in a variety of soils but require at least 8 hours of sunlight during the growing season. It is hardy to 0°. Bearing age is 1-2 years after planting. At maturity it grows to 8-15 feet in height. The skin is brown to purplish-black with a light-to-bright red flesh. The fruit is sweet, richly-flavored, and juicy.
