Encanto is a seedling selection made by Jon Verdick of Encanto Farms in San Diego. Grown from a seed of Vista Mission fig circa 1999. First fruits of this variety, in 2003, were very similar to fruits of parent tree. In following years, the fruit has taken on a much different character. It has a longer neck that the parent. It produces small black figs with some distinctive berry flavor of moderate intensity and sweet to very sweet.
