Cape Gooseberry (Goldenberry)

$19.99

Also known as goldenberry, this unique plant fruit is protected by a husk similar to a tomatillo. Native to Brazil this plant has been naturalized all around the world, but only recently in the continental USA. This is a soft wood perennial with some vining habit that can grow to anywhere from 3-6 feet. The fruit takes 70-80 days to mature and is a lovely yellow-gold with a smooth and juicy taste. No bigger than a large grape they pack an antioxidant punch greater than most fruits of veggies. Give this plant a sunny, frost free location sheltered from wind and it would also benefit from a green house during the winter months or brought indoors.
