Description
Legacy is the blueberry we keep where we can see it. The foliage is semi-evergreen, holding on and turning gold through the winter, and it has earned prime real estate at our own house and at the nursery on that alone.
The crop backs it up. Yields are very high, the berries are medium to large, light to medium blue and firm with very good flavor, and they come over an unusually long season rather than all at once. The bush is very vigorous and can grow weepy, so a trellis or a stake is worth putting in early. New growth starts higher up the plant than on most blueberries, so prune accordingly in late winter.
Overview
- Very high yields of firm, light blue, very good flavored berries.
- A long fruiting season rather than one concentrated pick.
- Semi-evergreen gold foliage that holds through winter.
- Very vigorous and weepy; give it a trellis and prune high.

Additional Notes
- Grower’s Insight: New growth starts higher up the bush than on other blueberries, so prune from the top down in late winter rather than cutting low.
- Regional Insight: Blueberries crop best where winters are cold enough to meet their chill and the soil is naturally acid, which covers most of the country once the planting hole is prepared properly.
