Grape Vine (Interlaken)

$29.99

Interlaken is one of the best seedless grapes for a cool summer because it ripens exceptionally early, roughly six weeks ahead of Concord. The green berries are crisp, sweet and aromatic, with a texture that feels much more like a modern table grape than a soft slipskin American grape.

  • 🌿 Very early ripening, excellent where the growing season is short.
  • 🌿 Sweet, aromatic seedless fruit for fresh eating.
  • 🌿 Crisp, non-slipskin texture.
  • 🌿 Self-fertile. One vine can crop.
  • 🌿 Excellent choice for cool maritime and northern gardens.

Thank you so much for these lovely hardy kiwis. They are much bigger than expected. Will be ordering from you again.

Irene

I have been buying from your nursery for years, and hands down your citrus has survived the best out of all of my sources. I have never lost a plant in my colder climate.

Returning customer

The plants look beautiful and healthy. I was impressed by the size and strength of the 3-Cherry Tree.

Description

Interlaken gives cool-climate growers something that many seedless grapes cannot: enough time to actually finish the fruit.

It ripens very early, roughly six weeks ahead of Concord, with crisp green seedless berries that are sweet and distinctly aromatic. The skin stays with the flesh when you bite into it, so the texture feels closer to a modern table grape than the soft, slipping skin of many old American grapes.

That early season is the reason Interlaken has remained a favorite in cooler grape-growing regions. Plenty of vines will grow vigorously in a mild summer. Fewer will turn that growth into properly ripe table fruit before fall weather arrives.

Overview

  • 🌿 Very early green seedless table grape.
  • 🌿 Sweet, crisp and aromatic.
  • 🌿 Non-slipskin texture.
  • 🌿 Self-fertile.
  • 🌿 Fruit can continue sweetening while hanging on the vine.
  • 🌿 Best trained on a permanent trellis, arbor or fence.

Growing Details

Botanical Name: Vitis hybrid ‘Interlaken Seedless’
Site and Soil: Full sun; warm, well-drained soil with good air movement
Pollination: Self-fertile
Ripening Time: Very early, roughly six weeks ahead of Concord
Fruit: Green seedless berries; sweet, aromatic, crisp, non-slipskin
Training: Permanent trellis, arbor or fence; cane pruning works well
Spacing: About 6 to 8 ft between vines in a managed home planting

Additional Notes

  • 🌿 Grower’s Insight: Interlaken earns its place by ripening before many later seedless grapes have really started to finish.
  • 🌿 Regional Insight: Especially useful in cool maritime climates, northern gardens and short-season sites. In wetter regions, give the vine sun, airflow and an open canopy as part of normal grape care.
  • 🌿 Netting is worth having ready once the berries begin to sweeten.

Planting & Care – Interlaken Seedless Grape

Site

Give Interlaken the sunniest, warmest site you have. A south- or west-facing exposure helps the fruit build sugar quickly and keeps the canopy dry.

Soil & Planting

Plant in well-drained soil and avoid low spots that stay saturated. Grapes generally prefer being planted in native soil rather than a heavily amended pocket.

Training & Pruning

Give the vine a permanent wire, fence or arbor from the start. Prune every winter to keep the canopy productive and open; Interlaken responds well to cane pruning.

Watering

Water regularly while the vine establishes. Mature vines are more drought-tolerant, but steady moisture from bloom through berry sizing gives the best crop.

Canopy Care

Keep growth tied up and reasonably open so light and air can move through the vine. In humid or rainy regions, this simple canopy management does much of the work.

Harvest

Begin tasting as the berries soften and sweeten. Flavor is a better harvest guide than color alone.
