Description
Weeping Mulberry is an edible ornamental prized for its flowing, pendulous branches and reliable fruiting. During the growing season, the tree develops a curtain-like form, and by mid to late summer those branches can be dotted with small, sweet, dark-tinted mulberries.
This variety is commonly grown as a statement tree in the front yard or as a focal point in the landscape, but it also performs well in large containers where its form can be appreciated up close. While the fruit is not large, it is pleasantly sweet and enjoyable fresh when fully ripe.
Understanding the weeping form: Like all weeping mulberries, the final shape is determined by simple training when the tree is young. By guiding one upright shoot upward to your desired height and then allowing growth to cascade downward, you control where the “umbrella” of branches begins. If left untrained, the tree will weep low and spread outward.
