Fig Tree (Black Madeira)

Black Madeira is a great fig brought to California by immigrants from the island of Madeira, Portugal. Many say it is one of the best tasting figs. The Black Madeira fig is a medium-sized, dark fig with a dark red interior. It has a fruity, rich flavor, sugary-sweet and syrupy as it further ripens. This fig likes heat, full sun and a longer growing season and can be grown in greenhouses in the Northwest and still get wonderful figs. Black Madeira produces a main crop of fruits and pollination is not required.
