Dr. Monticello is an heirloom fig that was brought to the US from Italy by Dr. Sam Monticello’s grandmother on her way to meet her new husband and has grown in the area of Lake Charles ever since as well as in Kansas where other family migrated to. This fig produces delicious dark purple skinned fruit with a red berry interior. This fig tree is hardy and also tolerates humidity well. It should be protected from frost. It is a very productive and vigorous cultivar.
