Description
C’s Red Fig (Calliope’s Red Greek) is a treasured heirloom brought from Portugal to the U. S. by the Pangaio family over 50 years ago. This variety produces deep red flesh with a sweet berry flavor, complemented by notes of papaya, honeydew melon, and watermelon. The reddish-brown skin resists cracking, and the tree yields two crops—one in early summer and another in early fall.
C’s Red has proven exceptionallycold-hardy, surviving in zone 6 winters with minimal protection. Even after die-back, it reliably fruits in its first year of regrowth. Fruits are medium-sized and are highly productive.
